NAACP state president to speak at recreation center

The Chilton County Chapter of the NAACP and Benard Simelton, NAACP state president, will be holding a county meeting Tuesday, March 22.

The purpose of the meeting is to inform the public about the organization and to help build its membership.

“It’s a county-wide meeting, and I will be telling what the organization has accomplished over the years,” said Ben Chaney, NAACP Clanton/Chilton County branch president.

This will be Simelton’s first time visiting Chilton County during his term as the state president.

Chaney has been passing out flyers for the event and is inviting everyone in the community to come out and show their support.

The meeting will be held at the Clanton Recreation Center off Lay Dam Road at 7 p.m.

“We’re hoping to have a pretty good group there,” he said. “I’m hoping this meeting will motivate the people attending to get involved.”
