Gardens celebrate Valentines Day

The residents at the Gardens of Clanton celebrated Valentines Day the best way they know how, with a fashion show.

“They walked around the room, danced and showed off their personality,” said Vickie Jones, Gardens of Clanton administrator.

The room was decorated in red and white with heart balloons and table decorations throughout.

Voting took place and Bill Attaway was named prince of the show, while Joyce Eiland was named princess.

Other finalists included first alternate Hazel Gritton, second alternate Carol Armstrong and third alternate Mary Jones.

Not only did Gritton earn the honor of first alternate, but she was also celebrating her 87th birthday.

Charlotte Clark was named Miss Congeniality and Edith Daughtery was most fashionable.

Each resident received a rose and a box of candy as their Valentines Day gifts.

Chocolate covered strawberries and heart pillows were given to the finalists.

February is recognized as heart month and continuing with the Valentines Day theme, Cheri Mullens, a nurse practitioner with Heart South Cardiology, was event’s guest speaker.

“I just introduced who I am and who Heart South is as a group,” Mullens said. “We’ve been here since the 90s, but now we’re here every day since the hospital opened up.”

Heart South has an office in Alabaster, as well as its new association with the hospital.

“Many of the things that we’ve been doing in our Alabaster location, we can now perform in Clanton without requiring the drive,” Mullens said.

According to Jones, The Gardens of Clanton tries to do something special for its residents with each holiday.

“They love it,” Jones said. “It’s always fun.”
