Jemison beats rival, wins opener

The Jemison Panthers made it two straight over cross-town rival Chilton County on Tuesday night, as the Panthers knocked off the visiting Tigers in volleyball action, three sets to none.

The Tigers jumped out to an early lead in the first set behind the serving of Jordan Ray, and extended the lead to 6-1 thanks to the serving of Jaclyn Crumpton.

The Tigers maintained its lead until serving duties where handed over to Kelsey Lowery who led the Panthers on a 5-0 run to tie the game at 13-all.

The teams battled through an 18-all tie before the Panthers went on a 7-1 run to pick up a 25-19 win in set one.

It was the Panthers that set the pace and got on the board first in set two thanks to a kill from Lauren Broussard.

The Panthers went on a 3-0 run and never looked back. Three point runs by Leslie Hague and Caroline Foote assisted in a 25-15 second set win by Jemison.

The third set was a battle from the opening serve, as neither team led by more than one.

With the score tied at 13-all, Brianna Connell led a 4-0 run that gave Chilton County an 18-14 lead, but the Panthers did not give up that easily.

Trailing by three, Foote picked up two while serving to cut the lead to one, while Broussard led another 4-0 run that gave Jemison a 24-22 lead.

The Tigers managed to tie the game at 24, but were unable to pull of the final two points, as the Panthers closed out the set 26-24 and the match 3-0.

Hannah Northcutt led the Panthers with 13 kills and digs, while Camille Hague added 10 kills and 18 digs.

Brianna Connell led the Tigers with 14 digs.
