Littleton appointed to vacant Thorsby Town Council seat

Thorsby’s Town Council on Tuesday appointed Glenn Littleton to the vacant council seat.

The District 5 seat came open when Roger Marcus resigned at a meeting on Aug. 5.

Littleton, Kathy Johnson and former mayor Tom Bentley submitted applications to be considered for the seat.

Council member Neil Benson nominated Bentley to fill the vacant seat, but the motion died for lack of a second.

Then, council member Marvin Crumpton moved to nominate Littleton, and the motion was seconded by Nicole Hilyer.

Crumpton, Hilyer and Randall Higgins voted in favor of appointing Littleton, while Benson abstained from the vote.

Benson said he has no problem with Littleton, a long-time friend, serving in the position but that he thought Bentley’s experience would have been an asset to the council and town.

Benson also said he would have liked to have seen the vote delayed to a future meeting in hopes of more people submitting applications.

“I’m fine with it,” Benson said. “I voted my peace on it.”

The only other action taken by the council on Tuesday, in a meeting that was postponed from Monday because of Labor Day, was allowing Crystal Smith with the town’s Parks and Recreation department to have a youth ball field dragged for $3,700.
