Thorsby officials received a positive report from the town’s auditor on Monday.

At a regular meeting of the Town Council, auditor Howie McNeill of I.H. McNeill III P.C. said the town is in “good shape” financially.

“I’ve only got good things to say,” McNeill said.

As part of explaining an overview provided to the Council and Mayor Jean Nelson, McNeill said the town government has a net worth of over $3 million.

Earlier in the meeting, the Council voted to allow Public Works Director Terry Jackson to hire a full-time employee.

Jackson said the funds for the hire were available in his department’s budget.

Jackson and the Council discussed several other items, including an issue with a recently repaired sewer line, a leak near the home of a resident off Montana Avenue, a truck that is not in working condition, Alabama Department of Environmental Management requirements related to lead and copper in water lines, and traffic signage at a couple of locations around town.

Casey Clark, director of bands for Thorsby School, addressed the Council about the need for a donation to the program’s effort to purchase new band uniforms.

Council members said they have been impressed with the program under Clark’s leadership and voted for the mayor to look into how much the town could donate.

The program is seeking to raise $15,000 for 30 uniforms, Clark said.

The Council also discussed a proposal for a lease/purchase arrangement for the old garment factory property owned by the town, but took no action.
