Softball regional update: Maplesville playing for title, three teams eliminated

Maplesville will play for the Class 1A South Central Regional softball championship Saturday after defeating Verbena, 11-3.

As one of the top two teams in the region, MHS is already guaranteed a berth in the sub-state tournament.

The Red Devils play a yet-to-be-determined opponent at 5 p.m. at Troy University.

That opponent could be Verbena, which is scheduled to play an elimination game at 3:30 p.m. and would face Maplesville again with a win.

Chilton County, Thorsby and Billingsley have all been eliminated from their respective regional tournaments, which are also being held at Troy.

CCHS lost to Pleasant Grove, 12-0; Thorsby fell to Leroy, 10-0; and Billingsley lost to Choctaw County, 17-10.
