Despite a slow start and missed opportunities, the Thorsby Rebels varsity softball team pulled off a much-needed area win on Tuesday night, 11-1, against the B.B. Comer Tigers.

Comer got on the board first with a Shamekida Cook home run over the left field wall to give the Tigers their only run of the game and an early 1-0 lead.

Despite three straight walks to start the bottom of the first, the Rebels were unable to capitalize and the Tiger defense would retire the next three batters to leave the score 1-0.

Taylor McManus and the Rebel defense retired the Tigers in order in the top of the second inning, while the Rebel offense got on the scoreboard in the bottom half of the inning as Kaley Perdue came across home plate on a passed ball by the Tigers catcher, tying the game at 1-all.

McManus continued to plague the Tigers in the top of the third, retiring two batters via strikeout and another on an infield fly ball.

The Rebel offense added two more runs in the bottom half of the third inning when an Ashlyn Chancellor double drove in Christian Niece, who reached on a walk. Chancellor would later score on a wild pitch, and Thorsby led 3-0 after three innings.

For the second straight inning, the Rebels retired Comer facing only one extra batter in the inning, giving up a single with two outs to Melissa Weaver.

The Rebels got a boost at the plate to start the fourth inning with a Josie Adams shot over the left field wall for a home run, but Thorsby was far from done in the inning.

THS added two more runs on a Kaley Perdue infield hit to drive in Niece, who reached on her second walk of the evening; and a Kelly Nord double to left scored Keela Lucas, who reached on a dropped third strike.

The Rebels led 6-1 after four innings.

Another three-up, three-down inning by the Rebel defense set up their offense with the chance to end the game early via the 10-run mercy rule.

McManus started the inning off by taking a pitch off her left knee, and Braiden Gottier gave the Rebels two on with no outs after an infield single.

An Adams double scored McManus and gave the Rebels runners on the corners. Chancellor added a single to load the bases, and a Perdue double scored two. Lilly Barnett’s second straight double scored Perdue, giving the Rebels the needed 10-run lead and the win.

McManus pitched five innings for the Rebels, allowing four hits, no walks and one run while striking out six.

Barnett led the way for the Rebels at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, a walk and one RBI. Perdue was 2-for-3 with a single, double and three RBI.
