Man killed in Highway 31 wreck

One person died and at least three others were hospitalized following a wreck Saturday night in Thorsby.

Two vehicles traveling in opposite directions collided on Highway 31 in north Thorsby, according to town Police Chief Rodney Barnett.

Mike Chancellor was killed in the wreck. Three of Chancellor’s family members—wife Beth and two children, one under the age 10 and one under the age of 5—were transported to hospitals after the incident.

The Chancellors were all traveling in one vehicle. A second vehicle was involved. The identity and condition of the driver—and sole occupant—of the second vehicle couldn’t be determined Monday.

The wreck occurred about 11:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Thorsby Police were first to respond, but Alabama State Troopers are investigating the incident.

“As with many small departments, we don’t have anybody that has gone through traffic homicide training,” Barnett said. “We held the scene until the troopers got there.”
