Thorsby accepting bids for park and rec lawncare

The Thorsby Town Council announced it will begin taking bids for lawncare of the Thorsby Park and Rec area during its Jan. 4 meeting.

Those interested in submitting a bid can pick up applications at town hall. The town hall’s lobby is closed due to COVID-19, but the drive-thru is open.

The Council also approved several appointments and hires during its Jan. 4 meeting.

Brad Jackson was appointed to the planning commission, while Daniel Avery was appointed as the town superintendent.

Avery replaces Terry Jackson who recently retired.

The Thorsby Police Department will have three new members after the Council approved the hiring of Nathan Bland, Braden Davenport and Ashley Gargus as part-time officers.

Christopher Pate was also approved as a volunteer with the Thorsby Fire Department.

The annual Severe Weather Tax Holiday will take place Feb. 26-28.

The Council approved to transfer funds, pay the bills and the town’s financial statement.

The next Council meeting will be Jan. 19, which is a Tuesday. This is the case due to Martin Luther King Jr. Day being Jan. 18.
