Niamon named THS homecoming queen

Addie Niamon could not have started her senior year at Thorsby High School in more memorable fashion than being named 2018 homecoming queen.

“I’m glad that everyone thinks enough of me to vote for me,” Niamon said.

In many ways, Niamon earned the honor of homecoming queen in the way that she has treated her fellow classmates and respect that she has shown the school.

“I try to make everybody feel that they can come to me and talk to me about anything,” Niamon said.

According to Niamon, despite being a senior, the days leading up to homecoming were the first times that she had begun to feel the emotion of it being her final year of high school.

“We were all talking today at school about how this is our last homecoming game [as students],” Niamon said.

She was both excited and surprised when her name was called over the public address system at Susan Bentley Field.

“It kind of just hit me, because I wasn’t really expecting it,” Niamon said. “Everybody was just staring at me, and I almost forgot what to do.”

She had been a member of the homecoming court each year since seventh grade.

Being named homecoming queen was just as big of a deal for Niamon’s family as it was for her personally.

It meant a lot for everyone that was involved as part of her support staff leading up to the night and over the years.

“My mom came down and took a million pictures,” Niamon said. “The whole day has been like that, it has been just smile after smile.”
