Thorsby’s junior varsity football team made history Oct. 20 by becoming the first to go undefeated (7-0) in the last 30 years.

The Rebels ended their season with a 20-12 win over the Billingsley Bears.

Although Billingsley out-sized Thorsby, the Rebels were more physical, with several big hits on defense from Kane Belk, Christin Brown, Henry Wilson and Chase Birchfield.

The Rebels ran 2:00 off the clock on their first drive down the field, which resulted in a touchdown run by Brown.

The 2-point conversion was unsuccessful, which put the score at 6-0.

The Rebels and Bears battled the rest of the quarter back and forth until the quarter ended.

The Rebels were able to score again early in the second quarter on a run by Christian Fortner.

Fortner was able to convert the 2-point conversion on a run, which put his team up 14-0.

The Bears answered later in the second but missed the 2-point conversion, which put the score at 14-6 Thorsby at half time.

Both teams played great defense the third quarter, holding each other scoreless.

The Rebels scored one more time, in the fourth quarter on a run by Christin Brown, but missed the 2-point conversion.

The Bears answered late in the fourth and missed their 2-point conversion, making the final 20-12.

“These young men worked hard all year in the weight room and at practice, and it has paid off,” Coach Daryl Davis said after the game. “Billingsley has a great team, but our boys fought hard and did what it took to pull off another win.”

The Rebels put up some impressive numbers this year, averaging 40 points per game while holding their opponents to an average of 10 points per game.

Thorsby averaged 290 yards rushing and 110 yards passing per game.

Fortner, the team’s quarterback, completed 63 percent of his passes for a total of 756 yards, 10 touchdowns and eight two-point conversions.

He rushed for nine touchdowns and four two-point conversions, and ended his last JV season with 1,167 yards total rushing and passing.

He made the defensive stat sheet, recording three tackles and two fumble recoveries.

Brown, the running back, had a total of 1,127 yards rushing, 12 touchdowns and nine two-point conversions.

He caught three passes for 21 yards, which brought his yardage total to 1,148 yards.

He also recorded 12 tackles on defense.

Cole Farris led the Rebels with 334 yards receiving with 18 catches on the year. He scored four touchdowns and four two-point conversions.

He also had 12 tackles on defense.

Seventh grader Brody Barnett was a great addition to the team this season. He caught five touchdowns and two two-point conversions with a total of 249 yards.

He had 8 tackles on defense.

Belk led the Rebels defense with 30 tackles, eight for a loss, and one forced fumble.

Birchfield recorded 17 tackles on the year, with three tackles for a loss and one forced fumble.

The Rebels were coached this year by head coach/defensive coordinator Daryl Davis, offensive coordinator Corey Clements and special teams coach Tim Fortner.
