Alabama Power retirees hold annual pecan pie sale

The holiday season is just around the corner and a group of Alabama Power retirees are looking to make your Thanksgiving complete with a pie sale.

The Energizers are a group of Alabama Power retirees that continue to find ways to remain active within the community.

This year they are selling 9-inch Priester’s Old-fashioned Pecan Pies for $12.

One-third of the proceeds from the pie sale will be given to Chilton County charities.

According to Michael Blankenship with Energizers, in previous years, chances to win an Alabama or Auburn quilt were sold for $1, which also helped raise funds for both Chilton County alumni chapter’s scholarship fund. About $1,000 was raised for each scholarship fund over a three-year span.

However, the Energizer’s had to quit that portion of the fundraiser as it was considered a form of gambling.

The pie sale has been taking place for seven years. The idea for the pie sale came from the Jasper chapter of Energizers, which had shown success selling pecan pies, Blankenship said.

Ordered pies will be available for pickup on Nov. 18 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Alabama Power Company Auditorium on Highway 31.

Boxes are also available for purchase, containing eight pies. While individual orders will be picked up at Alabama Power, boxes will be delivered onsite to buyers.

The deadline for final purchases is Nov. 11.

Anyone interested in purchasing a pie or with questions surrounding the sale can call (205) 755-2777.
