Clanton’s Peach Path offers fit option

Peaches are a deep source of pride for Chilton County, and now they are also being used as a symbol reminding residents to live a healthy lifestyle.

The Peach Path is now a designated one-mile walking trail that starts and ends in front of Clanton City Hall.

The path was made official thanks to a partnership between the City of Clanton, Chilton County Chamber of Commerce, the YMCA of Chilton County and Clanton Councilman Jeff Price.

“Get Fit Clanton” decals are placed on the sidewalk every one-tenth of a mile along the path to help mark the mile-long route for residents.

According to Chamber President Billy Singleton, the Peach Path can be used as a form of exercise or as guide for residents looking for a relaxing stroll through downtown Clanton.

“It wasn’t a very expensive project, but it adds a little bit of value to the downtown area,” Price said.

As a doctor, Price sees firsthand the difference an active and healthy lifestyle can make.

“I’ve always been with [YMCA Director] Lori Patterson when it comes to encouraging people to come to the Y and get fit,” Price said. “You can’t outwalk what you eat, if you’re eating too much, but it can help your cardiovascular and blood pressure just to get out and move around.”

Price helped pay for the decals along the path.

Maps of the Peach Path are available at Clanton City Hall, the YMCA of Chilton County and the Chilton County Chamber of Commerce.

A fitness facts section is included and a list of other walking trails in the county are included on the maps.

“Get started on a healthy future by taking a stroll along the Peach Path,” Singleton said.
