Panthers basketball team wins three straight
Jemison’s boys basketball team won three consecutive games heading into a regular season-ending showdown with rival Chilton County High School.
The Panthers (18-7 overall, 4-2 area) defeated area foe West Blocton (65-48) on Jan. 25, Isabella (74-48) on Monday and Maplesville (64-55) on Tuesday.
Cade Hatch led Jemison in scoring against Blocton with 11 points. He also had nine rebounds and four assists.
B.J. Kornegay and Courtland Nunn each scored nine points for Jemison.
Jacob Hatch scored 25 points, including seven 3-pointers, and dished out four assists in the win over Isabella.
Jeremiah Gates had 12 points and eight rebounds, and Jesse Underwood posted 10 points and four rebounds.
Andrew Smith led Isabella with 15 points.
Against Maplesville, a game Jemison led by only three points going into the fourth period, Kornegay scored a team-high 18 points and pulled down seven rebounds.
Austin Lovette had 12 points and eight rebounds, Cade Hatch had nine points and four steals, Dylan Higgins had eight points and Jacob Hatch had seven points and three assists.
Jemison’s girls team (9-11, 3-3) defeated Blocton (28-12) and Isabella (39-31) but fell to Maplesville (36-24).
Laura Vinzant scored a game-high 18 points against Isabella and had help from India Satterfield (eight points) and Barbara Garrett (six points).
Khadijah Craig scored 10 points for Isabella, and Kinslee Mims had nine points.
Keshia Bailey’s 16 points and Amber Uptain’s 12 points were too much for the Panthers to overcome in a loss to MHS.
Vinzant led JHS with nine points, and Garrett had six points.
