Local high school football teams struggle in preseason jamborees
Friday night’s high school football jamboree games counted for nothing more than practice, and it’s a good thing because local teams didn’t fare too well.
Verbena lost at Autaugaville, 48-0.
Thorsby lost at West Blocton, 20-8. Darius Davis was responsible for the Rebels’ lone score of the night.
Maplesville fell at Leeds, 38-22, despite leading 6-0 after the first quarter of play.
The Red Devils rushed for 188 yards and passed for 43, but Leeds rushed for 215 yards and passed for 97.
Terence Dunlap led MHS with 83 yards on five carries.
Trevor Wallace returned a punt 40 yards for a touchdown.
Jemison was behind at Tallassee, 20-14, when the game was called with minutes remaining in the first quarter because of lightning near the field.
The Panthers were efficient at scoring when they had the football.
The first time a JHS player took possession during the game, Jimmy Archie ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.
Then, on the next Jemison possession, Kevin Nunn passed to Randy Satterfield for about 75 yards and another touchdown.
