Three local teams—Clanton, Isabella and Jemison—competed for the Junior High County Volleyball Tournament on Sept. 30.

Clanton and Jemison played first, with Jemison earning a hard-fought win, 25-20, 25-22.

Jemison then played and defeated Isabella, 26-24, 25-22.

Caroline Crowson from Jemison was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.

Mustangs claim junior varsity county title

The Chilton County Junior Varsity Volleyball Tournament started with Thorsby and Jemison playing.

The first game went back and forth, with the teams never more than a few points apart.

Thorsby pulled out the first set, 25-23.

The Rebels pulled out in front in the second set, leading by as many as 12 points.

Jemison fought back to within two points of the lead at 24-23.

Thorsby held on to win 25-23 and advance to the championship game against the winner between Chilton County High School and Isabella.

Isabella came out with a bang, and before you knew it, the score was 13-2.

Isabella lost serve, and the next server pushed the score to 19-6.

CCHS scored seven more points, and Isabella won 25-13.

The Mustangs won the second set, 25-13, putting out Chilton and advancing Isabella to the championship match against Thorsby.

Isabella pulled out to a 14-4 lead before the Rebels fought back to 19-12, but they could not pull any closer.

Isabella won the first match 25-16 and the second 25-17 to improve its record to 11-2.

The all-tournament team included Lauren Reeser and Carly Wyatt from Thorsby; Jackie Crumpton from CCHS; and Baeleigh Atchinson, Heaven Fowler and Savannah Hubbard from Isabella.

Isabella’s Aleah Kiefer was named the Most Valuable Player.

Mustangs defeat Thorsby

Isabella’s junior high team played its last game of the season on Oct. 5, defeating Montevallo, 27-25, 25-17, to finish with a 9-1 record.

Isabella’s junior varsity played Thorsby and won both games, 25-23 and 25-10.

The varsity Mustangs also played Thorsby on Monday and won, 25-23, 25-10, 25-19.

Synia Chattman had five kills and three blocks for Isabella, while Jayda Jones had nine kills and one ace.

Hailey Underwood ended up with four kills, one block, one ace and 13 assists; Brianna Tyler had three kills and two aces; and Sophia Underwood had three kills.

The Mustangs have a 22-7 record and are ranked sixth in the state.
