Girls basketball All-Area Team

The Clanton Advertiser’s 2010-11 All-Area Girls basketball team features one of the best group of players in recent years.

The team is headlined by players that have accounted for the past three Player of the Year awards.

Thorsby guard Sharonda Cooper has won the honor this season and last season, and Isabella forward Amber Wyatt, a senior, won the honor as a sophomore.

Cooper is only a junior and so will have one more opportunity to take the area’s top honor.

The rest of the all-area team is as impressive.

Verbena junior forward Marqueska Deramus was second in the area in scoring average, and she will return next season to challenge Cooper again for the Player of the Year honor.

Jemison guard Kelsey Mims, a senior, led her team’s turnaround from four wins last season to 11 wins this year.

And another senior, Renee Lewis, was the bright spot on a Chilton County squad that struggled but has surely laid the foundation for future success.

The first team is:

•Sharonda Cooper, Thorsby, guard, junior

•Marqueska Deramus, Verbena, forward, junior

•Renee Lewis, Chilton Co., forward, senior

•Kelsey Mims, Jemison, guard, senior

•Amber Wyatt, Isabella, forward, senior

The second team is:

•Kiana Andrews, Maplesville, guard, senior

•Keshia Bailey, Maplesville, guard, senior

•Lori Davis, Billingsley, guard, junior

•Amanda Hubbard, Thorsby, forward, senior

•Whitney Smith, Isabella, forward, senior
