The Red Devils outgained Reeltown by 334 yards and rolled to victory in a matchup of heavyweight teams.

The game did not count toward the region standings but can be used as a measuring stick for Maplesville (4-1) at this point in the season.

It was a test that Maplesville conquered thanks to a pair of stellar performances on the ground by Ryan Morrow and Christin Brown.

The dynamic duo combined for 330 rushing yards and three touchdowns.

Jackson Abbott put forth another solid outing with a pair of passing touchdowns to Jakavian Mckenzie and Timothy Bradley.

Mckenzie also led the team with five tackles, all solo.

It was the second-straight win for Maplesville, who hosts Ellwood Christian for homecoming on Oct. 5.

CCHS 13

The Tigers trailed 16-7 at halftime with a touchdown run by ShiKeem Laister as the lone score in the first half.

Triston Schmidthorst found the end zone in the second half, but it was not enough for CCHS to complete the comeback attempt.

According to CCHS head coach Tal Morrison, the players fought hard throughout the game and put forth maximum effort despite the end result. He took blame for the loss.

“We moved the ball fairly well most of the night,” Morrison said.

However, Benjamin Russell had the edge in the field position battle during key situations in the game and was able to take advantage of it.

The loss does not impact the region standings, where the Tigers still sit at the top with a record of 3-3 overall and 3-0 in region play.

CCHS now heads into its bye week.

According to Morrison, the bye week comes at a good time, and the Tigers can use it to work and fine-tune on the aspects of the game that hurt them against Benjamin Russell.

The week off will also help CCHS rest some players that have been dealing with certain nagging injuries.

“When you play physical football, you wind up with bumps and bruises,” Morrison said.

CCHS returns home against Bibb County on Oct. 12.

Highland Home 54,

Verbena 0

It was another scoreless outing for the Verbena offense, which has only accounted for eight points through four games this season.

The Red Devils look to change all of that on the road next week against Autaugaville, who Verbena lost to 36-30 last season, despite having a shot to win at the end.
