Rotary Club to host golf tourney
The Chilton County Rotary Club will be hosting its second annual golf tournament Aug. 25 at Timberline in Calera.
Event coordinator Joe Baugh said he felt the 36-hole, 4-man team scramble was a successful compliment to the famous fishing tournament the club holds.
“I kind of came up with it last year when I joined,” he said. “It was a big hit whenever I’d had experience doing it with other groups to raise money.”
Baugh said 11 teams participated in the first tourney, and that $4,500 dollars was raised for the various events the Rotary Club supports.
“We got $4,500 last year, and we want to try to double that this year,” he said. “It supports a lot of things we do around Chilton County. [It helps] give dictionaries to every third grader in Chilton County, and award scholarships.”
He also said that the tournament field has doubled from last year, and they are still taking applicants.
“We got 22 teams already for this year, and it’s open to anybody,” he said. “We’d love to have more people do it.”
The tournament will also provide a chance for golfers to win a new Ford vehicle with a hole-in-one on a select 3-par hole, and is tax-deductible.
The cost to enter is $500, and teams must be registered by August 9. For golfers who are rusty, mulligans can be purchased for a team for $40.
