Police looking for suspects

Clanton police are looking for suspects in separate incidents involving break-ins at both Stokes Automotive and McKinnon Motors, as well as fraudulent use of a credit card.

Both automobile dealerships, located at I-65 Exit 212 near the Peach Water Tower, were broken into Sunday, April 17 between noon and 1:30 p.m.

At least one subject stole several sets of tires from the shop of Stokes Automotive but was unsuccessful in obtaining any property from McKinnon Motors due to the building’s alarm.

Police were able to get a description of the suspect and getaway vehicle with the help of video surveillance.

“From the video we have determined that the vehicle is a 2004 or newer Nissan Titan with spoke type 20-inch or more rims,” said Clanton Police Capt. David A. Clackley. “The offender was a black male subject operating alone as best we can tell. He stayed in one of our businesses (Stokes) for an extended period. From what we could ascertain from the video, the subject wore gloves but was seen talking on the cell phone during the offense. We believe that he may have had a lookout working with him stationed at one of the nearby gas stations. Using surveillance video from one of the gas stations, we observed the vehicle getting onto I-65 heading northbound after the second business was hit.”

Police are also on the lookout for a suspect in an April 3 incident involving credit card fraud at the Exit 205 Shell station.

The vehicle driven by the suspect appears to be a 2005 or later model Pontiac Grand Prix red in color. The driver was described as a white male accompanied by a small child at the time of the offense.

The suspect is wanted for fraudulent use of a credit card, as well as the breaking and entering of a vehicle on Country Club Drive.
