Hundreds of items are ready to be auctioned off as the Chilton Shelby Mental Health Intellectual Disabilities Division prepares for its annual fundraiser.

This year marks the 23rd annual auction that will be held at the Mitchell Center in Calera, where the silent auction will begin at 6 p.m., and the live auction at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 16.

The Chilton Shelby Mental Health Intellectual Disabilities Division provides services including case management, supported employment, job training and two-group housing to adults with intellectual disabilities, just to name a few.

Items that will be auctioned include: furniture, gifts and holiday décor, sports memorabilia and household items.

“The auction began as a small event auctioning about 10 items at the 4-H Center in Columbiana,” said Kim Akridge, program coordinator. “Now we have 100 to 400 items.”

Signed Alabama and Auburn footballs are always a big draw to bid on, she said.

The auctioneer will be “Dollar” Bill Lawson from 102.5 “The Bull” radio station in Birmingham.

The goal of the event is to raise at least $15,000, and more than 150-200 participants are expected to attend.

“People look forward to coming every year,” said Akridge. “We’re trying to get everyone who can to come out and support.”

There is no cover charge for this event, and refreshments will be served.

The proceeds will go to support the Intellectual Disabilities Division organizations.
