The first two days of the Chilton County Softball Tournament have been played only to set up Saturday’s championship round.

The event, which began Thursday and is being hosted by Verbena High School, featured pool play the first two days.

The pool play was to determine seeding for a single-elimination tournament on Saturday, which will begin at 9 a.m. and conclude with the championship game at 3 p.m.

On Thursday, host Verbena lost twice, 24-7 to Maplesville and 10-3 to Jemison. Thorsby defeated Isabella, 9-3, on the tournament’s first day.

The Rebels were back to their winning ways Friday as they took a 6-2 win over Chilton County High School.

The game was scoreless in the bottom of the third inning when Ashlyn Chancellor scored from second base on a CCHS throwing error.

A Taylor McManus hit then scored Lilly Barnett to make it 2-0.

The very next inning, a Barnett triple with two outs cleared the loaded bases, and THS was on its way to the win.

Barnett scored on another hit by McManus, who earned the win in the circle.

Maplesville led Jemison, 3-0, in the second game of the day Friday.

Kiana Andrews recorded an inside-the-park home run with two runners on base to make it 3-0 in the top of the first inning.

Jemison struck back in its half of the first as Brooke Lewis led off with a triple and then scored on a wild pitch.

The Panthers still trailed, 3-1, at press time.
