Schools close early (updated)

Chilton County schools closed at noon on Thursday because of inclement weather.

All schools in the county, including Chilton Christian Academy and Jefferson State Community College in Clanton, closed early.

A New Options seminar originally scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday at Jeff State was also postponed.

The seminar is re-scheduled for Thursday, April 18, and will be held in Room 209 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Chilton County has been placed under a tornado watch effective until 7 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

Other counties included in the watch are Bibb, Blount, Dallas, Fayette, Greene, Hale, Jefferson, Lamar, Marengo, Marion, Perry, Pickens, Shelby, Sumter, Tuscaloosa, Walker and Winston.

The storms of concern have reportedly produced tornadoes in Mississippi as they continue to move eastward.
