Peach Jam gets new location

The 2011 Chilton County Peach Jam Jubilee will be held in Clanton City Park instead of downtown Clanton. This year’s Jam will be Friday, June 24 from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.

For six years, the free event has provided residents with live entertainment, arts and crafts, children’s playground, fireworks and other attractions as part of the Chilton County Peach Festival. This year will mark the first time the family-friendly event will be held at the city’s park.

“There are a lot of positives, but the main reason for moving the event is to provide room to grow,” said Mike Robertson, executive director of the Chilton County Chamber of Commerce, sponsors of the event. “It will provide room for added attractions, more vendors, and we will not have to close the roads downtown.”

In the past, downtown streets would close at 2 p.m. in order for vendors to set up. Since that won’t be unnecessary this year, vendors will be able to set up earlier. The event will also begin an hour earlier.

In addition to new attractions, local live entertainment will be provided.

Entertainment has not yet been finalized for this year so those who are interested in performing can send their information and examples of their act to the Chamber.

“The Tip Tops will be our feature act again this year,” said Robertson. “They’re a 10-piece high energy dance band that specialize in ‘60s, ‘70s and ‘80’s music. Last year, we had everyone dancing in the streets.”

Sponsorships for the event are now available and are as follows: Bronze Level, $100 includes recognition in print advertising and a sign displayed at the Peach Jam; Silver Level, $250 includes two free T-shirts, VIP room access for two and one free booth space; Gold Level, $500 includes four free T-Shirts, VIP room access for four and one free booth space; and Platinum Level, $1,000 includes six free T-shirts, VIP room access for six and one free booth space.

Platinum, gold and silver sponsorship levels also receive name recognition on T-shirts, radio, website, banners and publications.
