County agrees to 911 building

The Chilton County Commission approved a land use agreement with Chilton County 911 in conjunction with the construction of a new 911 building.

The facility will be located behind the current DHR building on Airport Road.

It will be a 20-year term lease with an option for an additional 10 years.

According to Commission Chairman Joseph Parnell, when 911 leaves the building it will become the county’s possession. At no point will the county relinquish control of the property.

The Commission also passed a resolution to make the stretch of County Road 37 from the Thorsby town limits to State Road 22 part of the county’s 2020 gas tax transportation plan.

Jordan Jones was hired as a maintenance co-op with the Chilton County Road Department. He is a high school student at Thorsby and will work part-time with the department after spending the summer helping out and learning the ins and outs of the business.
