Chamber seeks ambassadors

The Chilton County Chamber of Commerce had representatives from numerous businesses attend its ambassador luncheon Tuesday.

Held at Shoney’s in Clanton, 30 potential ambassadors attended the event with interests of becoming a chamber representative.

“This is a diverse group of business representatives,” said Mike Robertson, executive director of the Chilton County Chamber of Commerce.

Before the presentation portion of the luncheon, everyone introduced themselves and what business they represented.

“I’m interested because I am a new business, and it is a wonderful way for my business to get new exposure,” said Karen Summerlin, president of Atlas Maxx in Montevallo. “It is also a way for me to get insight and advice from older businesses as well.”

Robertson led the meeting, informing and discussing the benefits of becoming an ambassador. He also spoke about how important it is to spend money in the county and the vital role local businesses play.

Being an ambassador is an opportunity to serve the community and help it prosper and grow, he said.

“Being a chamber ambassador is a valuable asset because there is no way that the yellow pages can put you in touch with people like the chamber can,” said Calvin Binion of Binion Janitorial and Paper Company. “You receive a chance to meet people you wouldn’t normally meet on regular basis, and you get to meet people with the same interests.”

At the end of the luncheon, everyone conversed, met one another and exchanged contacts.

“It’s a great opportunity to get involved,” said Britt Culpepper, president of the Chilton County Chamber of Commerce. “Mike does a great job, and we are glad to have him back.”
