Chilton Christian Academy’s 6-man football team christened its field with a win against Faith Christian in the Patriots’ first-ever home game on Friday, Sept. 2.

The Patriots lost their season opener to Trinity in Oxford on Aug. 19, but they bounced back to defeat the Faith Christian Lions 58-12 in their second game of the season.

“They were really excited,” CCA Head Coach Todd Stephens said of his resilient players. “They’ve worked really hard at it, and it’s going to pay off.”

The Patriots took the lead early on and never let it go. They went into the locker room at halftime with a comfortable 28-point lead.

Senior quarterback Will Hamby had 88 passing yards and three touchdowns.

Junior Chris Lassinger rushed for 120 yards and had four touchdowns.

Sophomore Carl Mitchell made numerous tackles and broke up a key pass with about 2 minutes left in the first half.

Freshman Kevin Kemp delivered solid kicks and punts downfield both halves, and eighth-grader Nick Haube intercepted the ball and carried it in for a touchdown in the fourth quarter, bumping the Patriots up to 58 points.

With some improvements on the Patriots’ middle blocking, Stephens said, he hopes his team, comprised of 7th-12th graders, will remain undefeated at home.

So far so good, and if the home bleachers are as packed as they were Sept. 2 for the rest of the season, the Patriots will have enough support to seal the deal.

“We were much more prepared,” Stephens said. “I feel like everyone contributed. They definitely did their job.”
