Chili supper to help animals

What do chili and dogs have in common? We’re not talking about chili dogs; we’re talking about the upcoming chili supper to benefit our furry friends down at the Chilton County Humane Society.

The inaugural supper is scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 30 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Helen Parrish Activity Center of Clanton First United Methodist Church.

Tickets are available for $5 apiece and will include a bowl of meat or vegetarian chili, cornbread, drink and dessert. All proceeds will go to the Chilton County Humane Society.

“We thought with all the cold weather coming in, who doesn’t like a hot bowl of chili?” said Colleen Kennedy of the society’s board of directors. “Hopefully, it will be a big hit.”

Kennedy said last year’s spaghetti fundraiser was so successful that volunteers decided to add a new event to this year’s calendar of activities. She invites everyone in the community to enjoy some good food while helping out a worthy cause at the same time.

Tickets are available from Suds-R-Us in Clanton, the Chilton County Humane Society located on Shadetree Drive or the Second Chances Resale Store located on U.S. Highway 31. Tickets may also be purchased at the door.

Ticketholders may dine at the church or grab a carry-out bowl.

For more information, call the Chilton County Humane Society at 755-9170.
