Care Net receives Alabama Power grant

The Alabama Power Foundation presented Care Net Chilton with a $1,000 grant on Nov. 7.

The non-profit organization recently moved to its new location in the corner of the Village Square shopping center in Clanton.

They were still in the process of getting fully situated the day of the presentation.

As a result, the monetary donation will go toward helping with the moving expenses.

“We are always short on money, and we depend on donations,” Care Net Chilton Executive Director Susan Scott said.

Church groups are common donors to the Care Net Chilton effort.

“We are really an extension of the church, because it’s the churches’ responsibility to take care of the unborn and the widows and orphans,” Scott said.

Scott found out about Alabama Power’s donation right before moving locations began.

According to Scott, Angie Sanderson, community development assistant with Care Net, got the ball rolling after talking with Alabama Power representation at the United Way Kickoff in August.

After talking, Alabama Power suggested that Care Net file an application for donation.

“Angie [Sanderson] can speak off the cuff like nobody I’ve heard,” Scott said. “I’m adequate, but she’s awesome with it,” Scott said.

Care Net Chilton is a Christian-based organization that offers free pregnancy tests and limited ultrasounds, which means that they are not diagnostic.

“We will tell them if they are pregnant and how far along they are,” Scott said. “We don’t reveal gender. We offer a hug and hope, and an ear to listen for anybody facing crisis in pregnancy, which can be financially or if you don’t have the support.”
