Maplesville earned its ninth straight win over football rival Billingsley on Friday, 34-0.

MHS hasn’t just won in recent years; it has dominated. Billingsley has failed to score in five games in the current streak, including Friday’s region game.

Maplesville coach Brent Hubbert credited his team’s controlling the line of scrimmage, especially in the third quarter, when the third-ranked Red Devils (2-0) stretched a 21-0 halftime lead to the final score.

“We’ve got some new guys on the offensive line, but we’re definitely proud of them tonight,” Hubbert said after the game. “And our defense is definitely playing ‘Maplesville Defense,’ keeping the shutout intact.”

The Devils opened the game with a 52-yard pass from Colby Chambers to Damian Mitchell on the first play from scrimmage. The connection set up a 2-yard Brintain Hill plunge for the game’s first score.

Chambers passed to Mitchell for a 2-point conversion.

Billingsley (0-2) made its most serious threat of the game minutes later, but the drive ended when Anthony Johnson picked off a pass and returned it 94 yards for a touchdown.

Chambers rolled to his right and passed 34 yards to a wide open Johnson for a touchdown with 8:57 remaining in the first half. Brandon Morrow’s point-after made it 21-0.

MHS started the second half of the game as quickly as the first, forcing the Bears into a 3-and-out on their first possession and then getting a 45-yard TD run from Hill.

The point-after was no good, but Morrow connected on the extra point minutes later after a 4-yard scoring run by Devonte Morrow.

Chambers finished 7-of-13 passing for 121 yards. Hill rushed six times for 72 yards.

Trevor Wallace had two of Maplesville’s four interceptions.

For BHS, Rashaud Caver had 13 carries for 46 yards.

Billingsley hosts Autaugaville next week for another region game, while Maplesville will host Sunshine.
