Successful teams produce many All-Area selections

The Clanton Advertiser’s All-Area Baseball Team 2012 is comprised heavily of players whose teams made deep playoff runs.

Three local teams—Chilton County, Maplesville and Thorsby—advanced to at least the quarterfinal round of the state playoffs, and nine of the 12 first-team selections come from those squads.

Jacob Bass and Alex Campbell from Jemison and Bay Lucas from Verbena are the only exceptions.

The second team is more balanced, with all seven local teams represented.

Selections are based on coaches’ nominations, statistics when available and overall team success.

The first team includes:

•Pitcher: Alex Campbell, Senior, Jemison; Colby Chambers, Sophomore, Maplesville

•Catcher: Craig Headley, Junior, Chilton Co.

•First base: Jason Price, Senior, Thorsby

•Second base: J.R. Posey, Senior, Thorsby

•Third base: Kipp Moore, Senior, Chilton Co.

•Shortstop: Jared White, Senior, Maplesville

•Outfield: Cameron Cummings, Junior, Chilton Co.; Jace Maddox, Senior, Thorsby; Trent Smitherman, Sophomore, Maplesville
