Bears start season with 4-0 record

Billingsley’s baseball team opened its season with four consecutive wins.

On Feb. 17, the Bears traveled to Holy Spirit and won 9-2.

Tyler Powell was 2-for-4 with 2 RBI, and Dalton Davis was 2-for-4 with a double and two stolen bases.

Hits were also provided by Garrett Harrell, Dylan Chavers, Kendall Elrod, Taylor Kicklighter, Abram Dudley and Jarrett Acreman.

Thomas Nichols pitched five innings, striking out eight, to earn the win.

The next day, the Bears traveled to Verbena and won 11-7.

Billingsley made severals errors in the field but overcame them with 12 hits offensively.

Powell was 4-for-5 with four RBI. Davis was 3-for-5 with three runs scored. Hunter Sanders was 2-for-4 with a double and four RBI.

Hits were also provided by Chavers, Elrod and Terrance Nolen.

Elrod got the win on the mound and combined with Eric Willis to strike out nine Verbena batters.

Billingsley picked up two more road wins on Feb. 22 in a doubleheader at Wadley.

BHS won the first game by a score of 14-3.

Billingsley’s offense stayed hot, recording 13 hits.

Davis was 5-for-5 with two doubles, two RBI and five stolen bases. Willis was 2-for-4 with a triple, two RBI and three stolen bases. Elrod was 2-for-3 and doubled.

Harrell and Acreman each had a hit and two RBI. Chavers and Nolen added hits.

Harrell showed command on the mound, giving up just one hit with seven strikeouts through three innings to get the win.

The Bears picked up another victory, by a score of 10-4, in Game 2.

Nichols was 2-for-4 with two RBI and three stolen bases. Davis, Sanders and Acreman each had two hits as well.

Mason Friday, Willis and Harrell got hits.

Lefthander Jamie Barnett was efficient on the mound, throwing 48 pitches in four innings and earning the win by allowing one run on three hits.

Willis and Nichols both threw in relief, combining for seven strikeouts in three innings.
