Co-Missioned Ministries held a winter clothing giveaway at Big Daddy D’s Tees in Verbena on Dec. 21.

The giveaway was part of clothing outreach run by the husband and wife combo of Justin and Monica Price.

Its purpose was to offer residents the option of stocking up on winter clothing with the coldest weather yet to be felt in the coming months.

Each item hanging on the racks was donated from Chilton County and the surrounding areas.

“Everybody can help somebody, they just have to really want to,” Monica Price said. “When I see people giving back, it just blesses my heart.”

With the giveaway taking place just days before Christmas, gently used toys were also received and available for families in need of gifts for their children this holiday season.

“We’re thinking about the kids, but at the same time families as a whole,” Monica Price said. “The biggest strain on family life is money and that can put stress on the household. We really want to help the home life be as healthy as possible.”

Christmas is known as the season of giving and that is the message that Justin and Monica Price hope to convey each time they hold a giveaway throughout the year.

When the threat of rain became a realistic possibility, Big Daddy D’s Tees offered up the business as a suitable indoor option, if needed.

“They’ve [Big Daddy D’s Tees] lived in Verbena and they saw the need,” Monica Price said. “They really care deeply about the community.”

Co-Missioned Ministries typically holds giveaways about two to three times a month outside of the winter months. The giveaways often take place on Saturdays at the Clanton Outdoor Market.

All the items at the giveaways are free to those in need, although donations have begun to be accepted to help cover basic operating costs such as washing the clothes.

The outreach has been active since August 2015.

“We want it to look less like a charity and more like a good idea,” Justin Price said. “We’re trying to take the stigma off of free clothes.”
