First Round

Thorsby def. Maplesville 25-20, 25-16

Maplesville got off to a fast start and led 16-11 after a string of four straight points behind the serving of Macey James.

However, Thorsby went on a run of its own and answered the Red Devils’ momentum, eventually claiming a 19-17 lead and completing the comeback in the first set.

Unlike the first set, Thorsby was the team initiating the early pace and did not take long to find its groove.

Precision serving from Carlee Wyatt helped the Rebels open up a 22-9 lead and Thorsby never looked back, winning the match and advancing to the semifinals.

Semifinals

Chilton County def. Jemison 26-24, 14-25, 15-13

Chilton County advanced to the title game with a three-set victory over rival Jemison.

The two teams had previously met during the season with both times going five sets. The county tournament was no different and turned out to be another epic battle.

Jemison led by as much as six points roughly midway through the first set, before Chilton County stormed back to steal the victory.

After watching its early lead disappear in the first set, the Panthers were determined not to let that happen a second time.

Caroline Foote of Jemison did a nice job of ball placement to get kills in the first set and continued that during the second set.

Both teams went back and forth in the third set, but it was Chilton County that was playing from out front down the stretch.

Jordan Ray, who had served a nice game up to that point, punched Jemison’s ticket to the championship game with the winning serve.

Isabella def. Thorsby 25-12, 25-20

As the No. 1 seed, the Isabella Mustangs did not have to play until later in the day and faced a Thorsby team that already had one game under its belt.

Synia Chattman slammed a shot through a Thorsby block attempt, and the Mustangs led 10-2 in the blink of an eye.

Isabella powered its way through a comfortable first set victory.

For the second straight set, Katelyn Talley and Jayda Jones got the Mustangs off to a furious start with their service game.

However, this time Thorsby did not allow Isabella to run away with it, as Wyatt stroked a shot down the line and seniors Kaitlyn Lowery and Lauren Reeser hammered aces to keep the deficit within one or two points.

Isabella eventually extended its lead for good, and Thorsby’s valiant effort fell short.

Championship

Isabella def. Chilton County 25-17, 25-19

Kasey Grimes found the soft spot in the defense with a kill to help Isabella open up an 8-3 lead in the first set.

Chilton County erased the deficit thanks to a pair of kills by Ray and an ace by Abigail Powell.

Both teams were playing tall around the net, as Chattman of Isabella and Jaclyn Crumpton of CCHS traded blocks.

The Mustangs’ closed the first set with a 10-2 scoring run that was sealed with another rejection from Chattman.

Serving was the key to starting the second set, and fueled scoring runs for both teams.

Isabella’s big game experience eventually prevailed and the Mustangs created some distance and played from the lead throughout the second half of the set.

The Mustangs won all four of the sets that they played en route to the county championship.
