The Thorsby Rebels beat the Class 3A No. 2 Leeds Green Wave not once but twice Thursday, 11-2 and 17-8.
The Rebels wasted no time getting on the board in game one. Brantley Bice drove in a run in the first inning, and two others scored.
Thorsby had five hits and five runs in the fifth, as Tanner Bush and Jace Maddox each picked up an RBI.
Cody Carroll struck out seven Leeds batters in game one.
“We came to play today,” Thorsby coach Ab Argent said. “It was good to see us play up to our capacity. These kind of games are going to make us better down the stretch. I was proud of the way they competed.”
Leeds’ runs came in the fourth, as Daniel Falkner and Dylan Young scored on a double by Bradley Chasteen. Falkner also reached based on a double.
Game two started off slower. After a scoreless first inning, Evan Bryan sent Cory Woodall home on an RBI single to tie the game 1-1.
Leeds’ bats were hot in the third, scoring on three RBI. But Thorsby answered with eight runs of their own. Blake Elkins had two doubles and an RBI, Matt Morgan sent two more to the plate with a single, and Bryan put Thorsby in the lead with a double.
In the fifth inning, six more Rebels crossed the plate on walks and a pair of hits from Bice and Bryan.
Bryan ended up with 4 RBI on two hits to right field. Bice won game two with four strikeouts.
