Weather will be the focus of the Chilton County Chamber of Commerce luncheon Tuesday, March 6.
Guest speaker Kevin Laws, chief scientist and operations officer with the National Weather Service – Birmingham, will talk about storm preparedness and how to react to severe weather warnings.
“I think it’s interesting in these days with all these tornados having come through the last year,” Chamber Executive Director Mike Robertson said. “That’s one reason that I wanted him to come … for us to learn how to be safer (and) to learn how to respond to what these meteorologists are telling us.”
Laws, who lives in Chilton County, is responsible for the forecasts and warnings issued by the NWS in Calera, Robertson said.
“He also trains all the meteorologists on staff,” Robertson said.
The luncheon will be at noon at the First United Methodist Church Activity Center in Clanton.
Next month’s guest speaker will be Clanton Police Chief Brian Stilwell with a message about identity theft.
Other Chamber events coming up include an open house March 6 at This Is Bliss Therapeutic Massage and Spa Center from 6-8 p.m.; a ribbon cutting March 15 at Johnson and Associates Realty (formerly Tom Murphy Realty) at 11 a.m.; and a Business After Hours at Trilliam Apartment Homes from 4:30-6 p.m.
