Alabama Power work crews finished restoring power in Maplesville on Thursday, Town Clerk Sheila Haigler said.

“As far as I know, all power has been restored,” Haigler said. “The only reason that someone’s power may not be restored would be if the power box pulled away from the house.”

Several residents on Highway 139 are still without telephone service.

The town has started cleaning up the roads. Volunteers from Jemison have been helping the past two days, Haigler said, and volunteers from Thorsby and Clanton will be helping next week.

The local chapter of Blue Star Mothers, a national organization of mothers of servicemen and women, will be in Maplesville on Saturday, Jan. 28 at noon to help clean up.

Haigler said the town has paired volunteers with homeowners to assist with miscellaneous tasks, such as removing downed tree limbs and cleaning yards.

“There has just been an outpouring of people to come in and do work,” Haigler said. “We can’t ask for people to be any better. Everyone has been so kind.”

Maplesville does not need any more clothing or supplies at this time.

“The mayor and the council really appreciate the help,” Haigler said. “We just need a little time and some pretty blue skies.”
