Charlie Smith

Charlie Frank Smith, 86, of Verbena died Sunday, Oct. 5 at Shelby Baptist Medical Center.
He was born June 26, 1922, in Chambers County, son of the late James William Smith and the late Lura Maybelle Brown Smith.
He served as radioman chief petty officer in the U.S. Navy from 1941-1947 during World War II. After serving in the military, Mr. Smith chose farming in Chilton County as his occupation.
Survivors include his wife, Katie H. Smith of Verbena; sons, Michael L. (Peggy) Smith of Verbena and Frank C. (Carol) Smith of Billingsley; daughters, Deborah K. (Billy) Ward of Verbena and Kimberly J. (Keith) Moore of Verbena; nine grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; sister, Ruth Carter of Clanton and a host of nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received today from 5-8 p.m. Services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 8, at 11 a.m. at Martin Funeral Home Chapel with Elder Mike Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Bethel Primitive Baptist Cemetery.
