John Davis

The Rev. John C. Davis passed away on Sunday, Aug. 16, 2009, at his home in Clanton. Mr. Davis was born Aug. 20, 1937, to the late Grady and Beryl Davis.
Mr. Davis received his bachelor’s degree from Samford University and his Master’s of Theology from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. Mr. Davis was ordained into the ministry at Northside Baptist Church in Selma where he began his 45 years of service to the Lord. Mr. Davis’ ministry began at New Hope Baptist Church in Orrville, and he was later led to serve in numerous churches throughout Alabama and Louisiana with his most recent interim pastorate being at First Baptist Church Jemison.
Mr. Davis is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Mattie Rush Davis; his children, Rusty Davis (Kathy) of Clanton, and Janet Davis Frasier (Tim) of Valley Grande. He is also survived by his brother, Perry Davis (Teenie) of Selma. He was preceded in death by his sister, Daiselle Veach. Mr. Davis also leaves behind his grandchildren, Brandon Davis, Holley Davis, Clayton Moore, Mary Katherine Moore, Lindsey Carlisle and Joshua Meins; great-grandchildren, Tyler Meins, Ashley Carlisle, Hannah Miley, Alexis Peters and Ella Brooke Darley. Mr. Davis also leaves behind numerous relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held at Selma Funeral Home, Tuesday, Aug. 18, from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Northside Baptist Church, Wednesday, Aug. 19 at 11 a.m. with burial following at Pineview Memory Gardens and Selma Funeral Home directingHomeHo. The Rev. Tommy Rush and the Rev. Steve Eubanks will be officiating the service. The deacons of First Baptist Church Jemison will serve as pallbearers.
