Horace Brown

Memorial services for Horace K. “Jap” Brown, 83, will be Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2009, at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Clanton with the Rev. Larry Anderson and the Rev. Brian Dovey officiating. The family will receive friends in the church sanctuary for one hour prior to services.
Mr. Brown died Saturday at Chilton Medical Center.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Faye M. Brown of Clanton; a son, Koven L. (K.L.) Brown and his wife, Mandee, of Jacksonville; four sisters, Ruth Huston of Huntsville, Burma Bible of Oxford, Martha Denney and her husband, Fred, of Oxford, and Inez Clark and her husband, Gerald, of Lineville; two brothers, Lamar Brown and his wife, Billie Ruth, of Roanoke, and Dan Brown and his wife, Edna Earl, of Anniston; four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Brown was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Clanton. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific and served aboard, and was involved in, the commissioning of the U.S.S. Woodford.
He retired from the U.S. Department of Agriculture in 1988 after 37 years service and was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE).
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Connie Fay Cox; a brother, Cois Brown; a sister, Virginia Barker; and a granddaughter, Allison Faye Brown.
