Authorities have identified the man found Saturday in a burning car outside Clanton.

The body of Bobby Bolden, 42, of Birmingham was discovered in the fire, which happened just after 9 a.m., according to Sheriff Kevin Davis.

The car was found in a driveway of a vacant house for sale on County Road 762, off Lake Mitchell Road.

The sheriff’s office is still awaiting results from a preliminary autopsy to be performed in Montgomery but are investigating the death as a homicide.

It can take up to a week or two to get initial autopsy results back from the state, but that could be delayed longer because of the Christmas holidays, Davis said.

There are no suspects in the case as of Thursday afternoon, but Davis said sheriff’s investigators have evidence and are actively working the case.

“We have several avenues and several different directions investigators are working,” Davis said.

It’s not clear why Bolden would have been in Chilton County on Saturday morning.

“We don’t know of any connections to Chilton County or why he would have been here,” Davis said.
