Berniece S. Baker

Berniece S. Baker, 88, of Birmingham passed away Dec. 23, 2011.

Mrs. Baker, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.S. Sharp of Verbena, was born in Oxford in 1923, but grew up in Chilton County.

After attending Verbena High School, she married the late Willis H. Baker of Clanton in 1939. Mrs. Baker had lived in Birmingham since 1954 and was a longtime member of Central Park Baptist Church.

A devoted daughter, sister, wife and mother, Mrs. Baker was preceded in death by her  husband, Willis H. Baker; one son, Milton E. Baker, of Cahaba Heights; and nine brothers and sisters.

She is survived by a son, George W. Baker and his wife, Oleeta, of Prattville; daughter, Sue Anne Baker Collier and her husband, Robert B. Collier, of Birmingham; daughter, Gail Baker Walker and her husband, Elliott M. Hill, of Marietta, Ga.; daughter-in-law, Donna Faye Sullivan Baker of Cahaba Heights; grandchildren, Joslyn Baker Hilliard, Leigh Ann Baker, Libby Baker Gardner, David Wesley, Robert Baker, Milton E. Baker Jr., Rachel Baker, Sarah Walker Humphries, Robert B. Collier III, Jonathan Collier and Lucy Collier; and 11 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters, Mrs. Jenny Mullins and her husband, Bill, of Millbrook and Mrs. Betty Blackerby of Montgomery.

Friends will be received, Monday, Dec. 26 from 10-11 a.m. at Martin Funeral Home Chapel in Clanton.

Funeral services will be Monday, Dec. 26 at 11 a.m. from Martin Funeral Home Chapel.
