Thomas McCarty

Thomas William McCarty, born Sept. 25, 1942, died March 28, 2010, after an extended illness.
A resident of Clanton and formerly a longtime resident of Hueytown, Mr. McCarty was originally from Birmingham. He was a graduate of Jones Valley High School, attended Howard College, and retired from JC Penney department store and Ernest McCarty Ford. He was a member of Hueytown Baptist Church, a Mason and a Shriner, and an enthusiastic fan of NASCAR and Alabama football. Tom was kind, loving and generous.
Mr. McCarty was predeceased by his parents, Ernest Lee McCarty Sr. and Irene Shaw McCarty.
Survivors include wife, Ann Till McCarty of Clanton; daughter, Dora Jo “Dodie” Lewis (Michael) of Hoover and her children, Amanda “Mandy” Gibbs (Kourey) and Matthew Lewis; stepdaughter, Annette Carter and her son, Shane Sammons; and her grandsons, Christian and Joseph Sammons; stepson, David Till; sisters, Joyce McCarty Kirkley of Guntersville and Thelma McCarty O’Quinn (G. Brown), of Chesterfield, Va.; and brother, Ernest L. McCarty Jr. (Edna) of Vestavia Hills.
Family and friends are invited to visitation Thursday, April 1 from 5-8 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home Chapel on Alabama Highway 22 (1300 Fourth Ave. N.) Clanton, with a memorial service on Friday, April 2 at 11 a.m. at the chapel with the Rev. G. Brown O’Quinn officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Zamora Shrine Temple, Children’s Hospital Fund.
