James L. “Luke” Chambers, 87, died Thursday, May 13, 2010, at Hospice of West Alabama in Tuscaloosa.
He was a World War II veteran who served his country proudly. He loved University of Alabama football and was a very big Atlanta Braves fan. He was a loving father, grandfather, brother and uncle. He loved his family and friends and was always excited to visit with them.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sally Eubanks Chambers; parents, John Wesley and Alice Rebecca Chambers; sisters, Pauline Lowery (Marvin), Annie Cooper (Welby) and Verbadee Hayes (Luther); son-in-law, Tim Moore; brothers, George W. Chambers (Dorothy), Sam Chambers (Pauline) and Buck Chambers (Gladys); and other half-brothers and sisters.
Surviving are daughter, Sara Rebecca Chambers Moore; brother, Jake Chambers (Mildred); granddaughter, Sally V. Moore; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Saturday, May 15 from 1-2 p.m. at Liberty Hill Baptist Church in Clanton. Services will follow at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Roland Davis officiating.
Burial will follow in Liberty Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers will be the VFW post, Capstone Village-Sara Barger Health Care Staff and Hospice of West Alabama staff.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of West Alabama, Capstone Village or Liberty Hill Baptist Church.
