Jemison High School DECA members and their advisor, Sandi Cullen, ventured to New York City on Nov. 30 for the 2011 DECA New York Experience conference.

DECA, or Distributive Education Clubs of America, is an association of marketing students, Cullen said.

Jemison High School DECA students attended the 2011 DECA New York Experience conference in New York City from Nov. 30 to Dec. 4.

During the conference, students attended workshops dealing with travel, tourism and the financial district including Wall Street.

“I take students maybe every three years,” Cullen said. “The experience was wonderful. All who attended have memories for a lifetime.”

The JHS group stayed in New York through Dec. 4 and visited the Empire State Building, Times Square, FAO Schwartz, Central Park, the financial district, China Town/Little Italy, Macy’s flagship store, and they rode the Staten Island Ferry during sunset.

Several parents and teachers from JHS helped Cullen chaperone the group.

Students who attended the conference were: Priscilla Winslett, Haley Smitherman, Austin Lovett, Shane Howard, Christopher Wigington, Nick Campbell, Brent Childress, Kory Mims, Morgan Posey, Tanya Liveoak, Ashlyn Knight, Tiffany Guin, Krista Henderson, Tayler Mazingo, Makenzie Ray, Ashley Evans, Amber Smith, Hylan Jackson and Lindsay Sammons.

DECA students from Chilton County High School attended the 2011 DECA New York Experience conference, too.
