All candidates for Jemison’s municipal elections have been invited to a public forum at the Jemison High School auditorium Tuesday night, Aug. 19.

The school’s Student Government Association will host the event, which begins at 6:30 p.m.

“We hope that every candidate will make an appearance,” Principal Allen Thompson said. “We wish the best for everyone participating in the election.”

Each candidate will have five minutes to present their plan for the city to the community.

The forum will begin with mayoral candidates and then go by each City Council district in order to give everyone an opportunity to speak.

Members of the SGA and Thompson will serve as moderators, but open forum questions will not be allowed.

“If the public wants to speak with a candidate after the forum, they will have an opportunity individually,” Thompson said.

He said that a political forum is a good event for a school to host because it gives students an opportunity to see city government politics, and the forum will allow each candidate to share their vision for the city with students and parents.

Jemison’s mayoral race is a three-way race between incumbent Eddie Reed, Kenneth Ray and Brian “Bucky” Jackson.

City Council candidates are listed as follows:

District 1: Raybon Ellison (incumbent) and George Brasher.

District 2: Danny Robinson (incumbent) and Steve Howard.

District 3: Robert Morris (incumbent) and Vester “Junior” Robinson

District 4: Faye King (incumbent, unopposed)

District 5: Sam Reed (incumbent, unopposed)

“This is very important to our students so they can prepare the format,” Thompson said.
