More than half of Chilton County is still classified in an extreme drought according to the latest report released by the U.S. Drought Monitor yesterday morning.
This is the third week that Chilton has been in an extreme drought, but only 13 percent of the state is facing this serious of a drought.
Almost half of the state is still in a severe drought, and 84 percent of the state is still at least abnormally dry. However, the state now has eight counties in southwest Alabama that are experiencing no drought conditions at all.
Expected rainfall from Tropical Storm Fay should help improve the state’s drought conditions.
