Lurleane Varden, 88, of Clanton died Sunday, Oct. 23, 2011.

She was born on Friday, Aug. 3, 1923, in Alabama, daughter of the late Andrew Ellison and the late Lucy Kirkland Ellison.

She was a homemaker.

Surviving are her four daughters, Doris Maddox of Clanton, Helen Varden of Knoxville, Tenn., Betty (Jim) Hughes of Clanton and Kathy (Jackie) Tracy of Clanton; son, Wallace Varden of Clanton; son, Jackie (Jan) Varden of Clanton; 22 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren; and sister, Emma Ruth Asburn of Atlanta.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Otis Varden; son, Renfro Varden; son, George Varden; son, Otis Varden Jr.; and daughter, Shirley Smitherman.

Friends will be received from 5-8 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 25 at Martin Funeral Home Chapel.

Services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 26 at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Glenn Bonds officiating.

Interment will follow in Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Jemison.
