Isabella’s Brian Donovan rushed for 213 yards, Allen Edwards threw for three scores and the Mustangs (4-1, 2-1 region) rolled over Verbena, 42-8.
After a scoreless first quarter, Edwards found Adam Jones for a touchdown on a slant pattern with 8:50 remaining in the first half.
Edwards connected with Austin Haigler for a 26-yard scoring strike a little more than five minutes later, and Isabella took a 14-0 lead into halftime.
Norman Craig found paydirt from 25 yards out to give the Mustangs a three-touchdown lead.
The Red Devils (2-3, 1-2) answered with a 5-minute, 64-yard drive, but Verbena stalled when a pass intended for Brandon White on fourth-and-goal from the 7-yard line fell incomplete in the back left corner of the end zone.
The hosts wouldn’t score until White returned a kickoff for about 80 yards and a touchdown. Brad Boswell found Kelly Lucas for the 2-point conversion, but Isabella had already scored two more touchdowns – one on a 7-yard run by Craig and another on a 54-yard pass from Edwards to Craig.
Isabella held Verbena to less than 150 yards of total offense.
Donovan concluded the scoring when, on the first play after the visitors recovered an onside kick, the running back raced 60 yards. Isabella’s Matt Snell was successful on all six point-after attempts.
