The state Republican Party’s bus tour will make a stop in Chilton County next Friday, Oct. 10.

Participating in the tour are Supreme Court candidate Judge Greg Shaw, Court of Civil Appeals candidate Judge Bill Thompson, Court of Criminal Appeals candidates Beth Kellum and Mary Windom, and candidate for the President of the Public Service Commission Twinkle Andress Cavanaugh.

The 67-county tour, dubbed “Hometown Connection,” began Monday and continues throughout the month. Members of the general public are encouraged to attend and meet the candidates.

“This is a good opportunity for people to meet the state candidates that they haven’t gotten around to yet,” Ann Glasscock, Chilton County Republican Party chairperson, said.

The bus is scheduled to stop at the Chilton County Courthouse at 11:30 a.m. After a tour of the courthouse, the candidates will break for lunch at Helen’s Place and then make their rounds through town.

At each stop, candidates will interact with voters and share their vision for the state while asking citizens to share their concerns, issues and ideas.

“Anybody would be welcome to join them,” Glasscock said.

The candidates launched the tour in an effort to get to know the voters better and to provide Alabamians the opportunity to get to know the candidates. There will 106 stops over the five-week tour.

“This tour revisits the days of true grassroots campaigning before television ads, direct mail and other modern tactics dominated the political landscape,” Alabama Republican Party chairman Mike Hubbard said. “In our opinion, commercials can’t replace the value of a firm handshake and looking someone in the eye to ask for their vote. We plan to do a lot of that before this bus tour is over.”
